Frequently Asked Questions

Hi there! Have some questions about our company? Find the answers below.

  • What are our hours?

Our office staff is available Monday through Friday, 8-5 (normally out to lunch between 12 and 1).

  • How it works?

Bethesda Wireless installs the equipment on or near the customer's home. This equipment points to an Access Point with a clear line-of-sight (no trees, buildings, or hils blocking the path). The information then travels to Bethesda Wireless's fiber-optic network.

  • How does it get inside my home?

Bethesda Wireless’s technicians will attach an antenna/dish to the customers house using industry approved methods. To get the cable inside the house the technician will find existing path into the house (phone, cable, or Satellite TV entry) or drill a small hole (outside wall). Then, in an agreed location there will be a Wireless router that the CAT6 cable is hooked to. A Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) power source, somewhat like an AC adapter, will connect into the nearest outlet to provide electricity to the antenna through the CAT6 cable. Finally, the installer will set up a wireless router. From there a connection can be made to any desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones on the day of install.

Bethesda Wireless can provide a quote for additional wired connection to other locations within the home. This is an extra service not included in the install.

  • How long will it take to set up service?

Under normal circumstances Bethesda Wireless installs our Internet service within a few days after signup. The installation can take up to 2-3 hours. Line-of-sight issues, cabling installation issues, and weather are potential time delays.

When weather prevents, or interrupts, an installation, Bethesda Wireless's staff will reschedule.

  • What can cause interference?

The path from your house to one of Bethesda Wireless’s towers requires “line-of-sight”. Any buildings, other solid obstructions, hills, or trees could degrade the signal to a point of being unacceptable. The technician will locate a quality signal, or the equipment will not go up.

  • Can I stream?

Yes, Bethesda Wireless offers packages that support streaming on sites like YouTube, Netflix, and Hulu. Packages are available that support multiple devices streaming at the same time.

Most streaming services require a connection speed of 6 Mbps minimum for Standard Definition video and a minimum connection speed of 12 Mbps for HD video.

  • Am I getting the speeds I am paying for?

Bethesda Wireless strives to provide our customer's chosen package. Objects like trees and heavy rain may impact maximum speed. Peak times may suppress Bethesda Wireless's bandwidth capacity. Peak times begins around 5:00 pm and last through 12:00 am each evening. If your service seems to be slow, we are always ready to help resolve any issues.

Another issue is the type of activities happening at once. Streaming content will consume bandwidth and cause other activities to experience some slowness. For instance, Dad is streaming in HD, and son’s Xbox seems slow, and Mom can’t seem to get Hulu to quit spinning. In this case, more than likely you are using all the bandwidth of your plan and need to upgrade to a more robust plan.

Customers can perform a speed test at www.fast.com. Please remember when conducting a speed test to turn off or unplug all other devices to get a true result. Make sure there is not an update running in the background of the device you are using. Speed test only show how much bandwidth is available to the device you are testing with. If other devices in your home are connected, they may be using it all, so the speed test only shows the small amount left.

  • How do I connect more than one device?

Bethesda Wireless offers a wireless router to purchase, or you can purchase one from your choice of retailers to connect any desktop computers, smartphones, tablets, and laptops. If you need assistance in connecting your devices have them available on day of install. Grant Area’s may come with a free router- Ask when you call.

  • Weak Wireless signal?

Move your device closer to the wireless router. If that helps, consider purchasing a wireless extender.

  • What do I do if I can’t connect to the Internet?

To re-connect to the Internet, please follow these steps:

***PLEASE NOTE: Do not use the reset button on the router. This will cause the router to go back to factory settings. An installer will have to come out and reprogram the router, this may result in a service fee. ***

    1. Check all cable connections on the computer and router to see if any are loose. Also, make sure that they are properly plugged in.

    2. Unplug the router and wait for full minute. Then, plug the router back in. The router will reboot itself and potentially reconnect to the Internet.

(If this does not reconnect you to the internet, please contact our office staff. If we cannot resolve the problem over the phone, we will schedule a technician to come out as soon as possible.)

  • What about my bill?

Statements are sent out on the 25th of each month. Statements are sent through the mail unless otherwise requested.

If you do not receive a bill, contact the office.

Payment is due the 1st of the next month. Due on the 1st and considered late after the 10th. Late fees maybe added after the 10th.

If for some reason it can not be paid between the 1st and the 10th contact the office as soon as possible to avoid possible interruption in service.  870-376-4334.
